1. Development Background and Purposes

With “strengthening soft power and developing humanistic innovation applications” as the core and based on the business tradition of the Chihlee University of Technology, the College of Innovation and Design combines the trinity of technology, commerce and design, and marches into the industries integrating cloud technology, big data, and Internet of Things. In addition to network technology, the college will further integrate aesthetics economy and cultural creativity to cultivate talents in technology innovation and design application in order to meet the competitive trend of global industries in reducing production costs from the past and upgrade into the experience era of aesthetics economy. The college aims to combine Taiwan’s original manufacturing, technological advantages and multicultural design creativity, introduce creative design into the industrial or technical value chain, as well as expand research and development results through cross-field cooperation, which not only allows traditional industries to enhance the added value of products, but also enables technological industries to use design to reshape brand images and increase the global competitiveness of products.

2. Development Characteristics

The College of Innovation and Design takes “cultural and creative industries as well as creative marketing” as its development characteristics. It grasps the cloud business opportunities, develops new media technology design applications, combines the essence of commercial marketing management, deepens consumer investigations, uses innovative design to integrate aesthetics economy as well as cultural and creative industries, develops diversified services, cultivates employment competitiveness in the workplace, as well as creates the new market value for cultural and creative industries.

3. Department Structure Planning in the College

The College of Innovative and Design (formerly Informatics Discipline Cluster) was established in 1995 and now contains the Department of Information Management, the Department of Multimedia Design, and the Department of Commerce Technology and Management. Under the core characteristics of the college, all the three departments share resources, integrate curricula, and have their own expertise to complement one another. They are as follows:

(1) Department of Information ManagementIt focuses on big data, robotics and other related courses, and gives priority to big data Internet marketing application practice as well as creative robot design and application.

(2) Department of Commerce Technology and Management It lays stress on commerce marketing management, Internet of Things applications, and innovative technology services and quality research.

(3) Department of Multimedia DesignIt places value upon digital audio and video, interactive media, media technology innovation applications, and virtual reality commercial applications.

4. Educational Goals of the College

Innovate for a sustainable society and design for a future life. The college cultivates cross-disciplinary talents possessing the abilities in technology, commerce, and design.

5. Cultural and Creative Cloud Industry-Academia Design Center

Based on the key industry talent supply and demand investigation of the National Development Council, the college is devoted to cultivating the “Big, Intelligent, Mobile, Cloud” (Big data, Intelligent devices, Mobile applications, Cloud computing) professionals demanded by the industries in Taiwan. The main tasks of the Cultural and Creative Cloud Industry-Academia Design Center are to integrate the faculty and equipment of the college, and support the faculty’s teaching, research and service work.

6. College Vision

The college takes "discovering, nurturing, integrating, implementing, and improving" as the baseline of its efforts. Starting from the discovery of industry and talent needs through credits and courses, it cultivates talents in cross-fields, conducts internationally integrated activities, emphasizes the practice of integrating students with industry, and enhances employment competitiveness through implementation. The college adopts the PDCA cycle through repeated implementation of "planning-execution-check-correction" to ensure that the development direction of three departments meets the needs of the industry. This results in the optimization of the practicality of courses, strengthening the production of practical topics, increasing internship equipment updates, providing sprouting youth entrepreneurship, nurturing seeds of innovation and creativity, establishing interactive device technology applications and smart life experimental operations, deepening professional core skills, and enhancing students' practical ability. Counsel students participating in off-campus competitions strengthen their ability to produce special topics, integrate the characteristics of the college to cultivate key talents, and cultivate the ability to "graduate as employment". The key points of the college’s development are as follows:

I. Optimizing the learning environment and activate the application of resources.

This college has established Cross-border E-commerce, Maker Shop, Future Supermarket, Dream Workshops, Green Base and other professional practice fields, AR and VR audio-visual interactive equipment, 3D scanning and printing, robots, Internet of Things and other resources. Developing equipment to allow students to use practical learning fields to carry out relevant practical exercises close to life through practical learning refines problem solving skills.

II. Strengthening professional skills and link industry needs

Cultivating students to learn professional development in various fields such as cloud application technology, Internet of Things, cross-border e-commerce, graphic packaging design, AV and VR technology, and animation design. Strengthening tutored students to participate in international competitions, expand international horizons and enhance competitiveness. At the same time, based on the cultivation goals and development characteristics of the main axis, the college integrates relevant faculty and equipment to form a research community, promotes integrated cross-field research, improves teaching quality and effectiveness, and returns research results to teaching and courses; in addition, through the "mentorship system", “Dual-teacher system”, “Cooperative system” or “Senior system”, community members are able to share information, knowledge, experience, and cross-departmental topics to enhance cross-field learning opportunities and develop the required functions of the industry. Reducing the gap between learning and use, improve seamless integration with the industry, and enhancing global career development opportunities.

III. Combining local needs and fulfilling social responsibilities.

The future of Industry 4.0 is not only to improve the level of technology, but also to plan long-term goals for sustainable environmental and ecological operations, discover local needs, solve problems, continue school food education through school teaching resources, carry out channel revolution, food design, and community Commercial value innovation. In response to the advent of the super-aged age in Taiwan in 2025, promoting smart health care e-Health or m-Health and other related services in order to improve the health of the elderly, thereby solving various problems arising from an aging society, and cultivating agricultural e-commerce and wisdom from solving problems. This effectively creates a social citizen who possesses both cross-domain hard power such as life and soft power of social care.
